Stay Away from Artificial Sweeteners

Artificial sweeteners are typically used as a way to cut down on the amount of sugar and calories a person consumes. Tons of foods and beverages use these sweeteners to promote their products as being “sugar free” or a “light” option for those following a diet plan, and they are intended to replace the use of regular table sugar.

There are valid uses for artificial sweeteners, but as more studies are conducted, they also come with potential health risks. The results of a San Antonio study discovered that men and women consuming diet beverages over a period of about seven years gained more weight and were at a greater risk of obesity than those who did not. Other studies have also shown an increased risk for metabolic syndrome, a series of conditions that includes higher blood pressure, extra body waist fat, and elevated blood sugar levels. All of these factors can lead to greater odds of heart disease or having a stroke.
