Bee Pollen May Help Diabetics

We’ve talked a lot about bee pollen as one of nature’s most amazing wonder foods. Did you know it’s also beneficial for diabetics?

Diabetes occurs when the body fails to produce a sufficient amount of insulin and the glucose expected to be absorbed by cells remains in the bloodstream. It is capable of causing complications in other organs, and one of the best ways to treat it is with a healthy diet and exercise.

Bee pollen has many benefits. For starters, it does a great job of strengthening the immune system because of its numerous antioxidants that shield the body from the stress caused by diabetes. Having too much sugar in the blood may lead to stress damage in the body’s vital organs, and bee pollen may help to “lessen the blow” while improving function.

Diabetics often face lethargy because of an insufficient amount of calories to burn as energy. Bee pollen is packed with protein and healthy amino acids that help to create energy reserves. This is fantastic if you’re someone who likes to remain active but suffers from diabetes.

Speaking of being active, diabetes has a lot to do with weight. Bee pollen is known to give metabolism a jolt, burning fat and therefore assisting with weight management.

For a great bee pollen source, look no further than our Hop Step Jump Energy Bars! These bars will help with achieving your fitness goals and keeping diabetes in check. Always consult a licensed healthcare professional to make sure you’re monitoring and managing your diabetes properly and safely.

Stay Away from Artificial Sweeteners

Artificial sweeteners are typically used as a way to cut down on the amount of sugar and calories a person consumes. Tons of foods and beverages use these sweeteners to promote their products as being “sugar free” or a “light” option for those following a diet plan, and they are intended to replace the use of regular table sugar.

There are valid uses for artificial sweeteners, but as more studies are conducted, they also come with potential health risks. The results of a San Antonio study discovered that men and women consuming diet beverages over a period of about seven years gained more weight and were at a greater risk of obesity than those who did not. Other studies have also shown an increased risk for metabolic syndrome, a series of conditions that includes higher blood pressure, extra body waist fat, and elevated blood sugar levels. All of these factors can lead to greater odds of heart disease or having a stroke.

We are exceptionally proud to say that our Hop Step Jump Energy Bars are free of artificial ingredients, including our coconut sugar. Our bars pack more vitamins and minerals than standard white table sugar while also keeping a low glycemic impact.

Fascinating Facts About Bees and Honey

Most of us prefer to stay far, far away from bees, but we do have to give credit where credit is due. Were it not for them, we’d be without one of the most delicious and important substances on the planet. As major supporters of honeybees and with honey comprising one of the many healthy ingredients in our energy bars, we thought we’d share some interesting facts.

For starters, did you know that honey is the only food that includes all of the substances needed to sustain life? Vitamins, minerals, water, enzymes, all of these are found in honey. It also includes an antioxidant called pinocembrin, known for improving brain function.

To give you an idea of just how hard bees work to create honey for us, most beehives will create about 30 to 100 pounds of honey each year. Even more astonishing, bees need to collect nectar from more than 1.5 million flowers and fly over 50,000 miles just to create a single pound of honey! Talk about being dedicated to what they do.

Honey is also environmentally friendly and crucial. Bees are responsible for pollinating over $15 billion work of crops in the United States alone each year. About a third of all the food consumed by Americans is derived directly or indirectly by the honey bee pollination.

CNN Recommends Coconut Sugar

Per a recent survey released by Consumer Reports, over seventy percent of shoppers are looking for foods that have labels with the word “natural” on them, leading to a decrease in artificial sweeteners and a rise in healthier alternatives.

CNN recently published an article discussing natural sugar alternatives, and they mentioned coconut sugar as one of the suggestions. As opposed to regular table sugar, coconut sugar comes from coconut palms and it also manages to throw in several healthy nutrients in small quantities. Phosphorus, magnesium, iron, potassium, antioxidants, it’s quite impressive. Coconut sugar also has a sweetener called inulin which, unlike artificial sweeteners, occurs naturally and provides several benefits for gut bacteria.

For active types that prefer to experience a natural high versus those sugar “rushes” that leave you feeling lousy when it’s over, coconut sugar is fantastic alternative thanks to its low glycemic impact.

Here is some additional good news about coconut sugar: it is environmentally friendly! It takes very little water and fuel to grow a coconut tree, and the trees can produce enough sap for up to four decades!

All of these benefits are among the many reasons why we chose coconut sugar for our Hop Step Jump Energy Bars and why we continue to focus on creating healthy, great tasting bars that use natural ingredients.

Fiber Is Your Weight Loss Friend

Fiber is known by a dizzying number of names these days. Soluble, insoluble, dietary, functional, it can be confusing! The fact of the matter is fiber will help you with staying healthy and making sure you feel sufficiently full once you’ve consumed a meal.

Soluble and insoluble fiber aren’t used as much these days. The focus has shifted towards dietary fiber and functional fiber. The former is naturally found in whole plant foods such as vegetables, whole grains, and fruits. The latter has been extracted from its natural source and added to a supplement or a certain food.

Foods that are rich in fiber are not only nutritious, they also promote health. The average woman needs to consume about 25 a day while men need about 38 to get the most benefits from fiber, yet most people never get that much. Consuming a sufficient amount of fiber can potentially lower the odds of cardiovascular disease by improving cholesterol levels and reducing the odds of a stroke. Additionally, fiber can also reduce the odds of developing type 2 diabetes and it may even prevent cancer.

Because it’s so effective in helping with feeling full after a meal, a diet with sufficient fiber can significantly help with weight loss. Our Hop Step Jump Energy Bars have twelve grams of fiber, just enough to get you about halfway towards your daily recommended intake.

Science Once Again Proves the Healthy Power of Almonds

Diabetes is a major disease affecting a countless amount of people around the world. This disease is caused when the body’s insulin is unable to break down blood sugar into energy, causing levels to skyrocket. Unfortunately, there is not yet a cure for diabetes, which only reinforces the importance of following a healthy diet and maintaining an active lifestyle.

One thing you should consider doing each morning is consuming a handful of almonds that have been soaked in water overnight. In countries like India, it’s a custom that’s been followed for decades, if not centuries. Per Ayurveda, soaked almonds are packed with a number of nutrients that are beneficial to the body. Protein, manganese, vitamin E, all of these work towards ensuring the heart remain in good shape, boosting bone strength, and, keeping blood pressure regulated. If you find yourself with a hunger craving, almonds are effective in reducing those cravings between your next meal.

A study conducted in Delhi showed that almonds were able to decrease the risk factors associated with type 2 diabetes including cholesterol levels, waist circumference, and more. This study reinforces its benefits as a healthy mid-meal snack and yet another reason why they’re among the ingredients in our Hop Step Jump Energy Bars.

Selenium Makes a Huge Impact in Small Doses

When searching or shopping for the best foods to consume, it’s generally healthier to go with the all natural option versus the one with artificial flavors, right? When it comes to the mineral selenium, it doesn’t get much more natural as it’s typically found in soil. Although it’s found in many foods, many people do not have enough selenium in their system.

The good news is the body only requires a tiny bit of selenium every day, and it’s important not to overdo it. Thankfully, the selenium that naturally occurs in foods typically provides just the right amount the body needs without going overboard or “overdosing”.

Selenium functions as a powerful antioxidant that also goes a long way in assisting with chronic disease prevention, proper thyroid function, and immune system function. Sufficient selenium can also help to decrease the odds of various types of cancer including breast, lung, and prostate cancer thanks to its positive effects on boosting the immune system defenses.

Keeping in mind that it’s important to take selenium in small daily doses, our Hop Step Jump Energy Bars have just enough to keep your immune system in tip top shape provided you’re also following a healthy diet and exercise regimen.

Chia Seeds: More Than Just for Chia Pets

When you think of “chia”, you might automatically think of those popular terracotta planters better known as Chia Pets. Here’s a fun fact: did you know that those seeds are also edible? Not only are they edible, they’re also quite healthy.

The origins of chia seeds go all the way back to the ancient Mayan and Aztec civilizations when they were used as a source to provide strength and endurance during a long distance run or when it was time for battle. That alone should give you an idea of how powerful these tiny things are.

Despite their minuscule size, chia seeds boast nutrients such as B vitamins, phosphorus, omega-3 fatty acids, magnesium, calcium, and much more. As opposed to flaxseed, chia seeds have a greater number of omega 3s, phosphorus, calcium, and fiber. A single tablespoon of chia seeds packs about seventy calories, two grams of protein, and just over four grams of fiber.

Just like if you were to apply them to a chia pet, placing chia seeds in water will create a gel. You may not know it, but this gel is more than just a step in growing a chia pet. The gel is comprised of what’s called soluble fiber which can help your digestive tract, help you to feel full for a longer period of time, and lower your blood cholesterol levels. All of these are great benefits if you’re attempting to lose weight.
